Getting fit

I have been going through a lot of changes lately--changes that I have wanted for a while, and for one reason or another, I have not been able to acheive them. Among these are physical fitness, better eating habits, and spiritual growth.

My sister challenged me to an 8 week challenge on getting fit on everydayhealth.com. I ended up exploring the site and finding that I like it very much. To me, it seems much more user friendly than other health sites with calorie counters that I have come across. I have realized by doing this that my eating habits are better than what I thought them to be; the two big things I want to work on is getting in more veggies and water. I have also realized that, while my work outs are increasing, they are still far from where they should be. I do feel good, though, because I actually have things set up around the house that I can do, and also because I have actually started to stick with my running routine (although right now it is being changed to an indoor walking routine until I go buy myself some sweats). I feel like I finally understand more about all this than I have in the past, and I actually know what I am doing.

As for the spiritual growth--wow. The simplest changes can be the most interesting to take up. A friend told me about Brother Lawrence, who practiced the presence of God throughout everyday life. After doing some reading up, I have noticed a change. At what seem to be random points throughout the day, I will feel very aware of God and how He is with me always and through everything. Before, this would only happen at night when I made myself quiet down and pray. Now, though, it is simply happening. I have felt less stressed and more sure of God's promise and provision in these past few days. On top of that, my thoughts have been less scattered, and what a wonderful feeling that is!

With that in mind, I have a new favorite quote. "You will never live beyond your thoughts of yourself."
